NAFDAC boss has assured Nigerians that expired COVID-19 vaccines would not be accepted again.
The National Agency for Food Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Prof Mojisola Adeyeye, disclosed this.

Prof Adeyeye maintained that the country is working hard to ensure this.
She revealed that NAFDAC was collaborating with international partners to ensure the country gets vaccines with long expiry dates.
Recall that NAFDAC had destroyed millions of expired COVID-19 vaccines in November.
In our report about 1,066,214 doses of expired AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines were destroyed.
This happened in the wake of the widely feared Omicron variant which emerged in November.

The World Health Organisation has said that this variant is behind the spike of COVID-19 cases globally.
According to a report released by WHO in December, there is an 11 per cent rise in cases.
“Omicron is behind the rapid virus spikes,” the WHO said in its weekly update.
The UN health agency further asserted that this variant had taken over the deadly Delta variant.
WHO Director-General, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus described the spike as ‘tsunami of cases.’

He said the Delta Variant and Omicron variants puts people at a larger risk of getting infected.
Ghebreyesus spoke on the equitable distribution of drugs between the rich and the poor.
He further concluded that a 70 percent global vaccination could end this acute phase of the pandemic.
