As Yuletide approaches, a professor has advised the Government to plan for COVID-19.
The Vice-Chancellor of the Redeemer’s University, Ede, Oyewale Tomori, gave this advice.

Tomori who is also a foremost professor of Virology addressed the Nigerian Government in all strata.
He urged both the federal and state Government to be vigilant and alert so that a new variant is not imported into the country.
According to him, the spike in COVID-19 has been linked with the influx of inbound travellers and passengers at seasonal times.
The renowned Virologist warned the Government against complacency. He added all measures should be taken to check the spread of COVID-19 across the country.

He said, “The way the figures of COVID-19 is going down doesn’t mean that there won’t be another wave. If you check, our waves have been associated with the incoming of people with all manner of waves into the country.
“December is closer, maybe there’s going to be another one, I don’t know but we need to be at alert.
“The government should start warning people about it.
“Experience has been associated with the influx of people at season times.
“In fact, the last wave in Lagos is associated with Nigerian students coming home for holidays, the one before that was associated with Christmas.

“Another Christmas approaches, we need to learn from the experience of the past.”
Tomori further advised the government to sensitize the public on preventive measures. He also emphasized the need to be aware of the possible importation of another COVID-19 variant.
“The government should start warning the people as people will be coming in with different variants and we need to get ready,” he said.
He also spoke on the COVID-19 vaccines and getting vaccinated. Tomori urged the Government to intensify in administering the vaccines.
“While they’re warning us about possible waves, they should hasten up about getting everyone vaccinated.
“The mandatory vaccination for workers is not the right way to go. The first thing to do is to flood the country with vaccines, then you’ll have the moral justification to mandate people for vaccination but if there are no vaccines, you can’t be mandating people to take vaccines because we don’t have the vaccines to cover everyone in the country,” Tomori said.
