Aubameyang Leaves AFCON 2021 For Arsenal After Testing Positive To COVID-19
Gabon captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has left AFCON after testing positive to COVID-19.

The Arsenal striker was allowed to leave the ongoing tournament prior to a game against the black stars of Ghana.
Since January 6, the Gunner star lost his chance after testing positive for COVID-19.
The Panthers coach Patrice Neveu confirmed the heartbreaking news to GOAL.
He said due to the recurrent health problem of the star striker, he has left the tournament.
Neveu explained further that the he may have to return to Arsenal for his health challenges to be assessed.
He further revealed that his teammate Mario Lemina too would be exiting the AFCON tournament.
“Since yesterday, the decision was taken to send them home to their club.
“We can’t judge it here [in Cameroon], we can’t assess the pathology of COVID here.
“It’s important that Mario returns to Nice and Pierre returns to Arsenal.
“It’s a decision that we’ve taken among ourselves,” Neveu told GOAL.

Meanwhile, the Gabon Football Federation have subsequently reacted to the statement.
They also confirmed that both players have been relieved from taking part in the tournament.
A brief communique read:
“The Gabonese Football Federation has decided to put the players Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Mario Lemina back at the disposition of their clubs in order for them to follow more in-depth exams.”
Aubameyang tested positive after his arrival in Cameroon for the AFCON tournament.
His fellow teammate Lemina who travelled with him from Abu Dhabi also tested positive.

This forced him to stay out of the Gabon opener against Comoros. They had a 1-0 victory.
After that, he had a negative result and trained with the team ahead of their second game against Ghana.
However, on January 6, strains of coronavirus were found in his system and he was allowed to exit the tournament.
