Imo Govt Set Dec 15 Deadline For Imo Council Bosses To Rehabilitate Health Centers

Imo Governor Imo Council Health Centres

Imo State Council has been directed to renovate 305 health centres unfailingly by December 15.

The Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma gave this directive on Thursday.

Commissioner for Health, Dr Barth Okorichukwu, made this statement as a representative of the Governor.

Okorichukwu said that the 305 health centres in the 27 local councils of the state must be rehabilitated. He affirmed that this was an effort by Governor Uzodinma for accessibility to quality care of locals.

Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, has directed that the 305 health centres in the 27 local councils of the state should be rehabilitated before December 15, 2021.

In a town hall meeting, he tasked stakeholders to act with dispatch. The stakeholders are;

  1. The 27 Interim Management Committee (IMC) chairmen.
  2. Heads of health centers in the local councils.

He emphasized that the Governor aims at ensuring the accessibility to primary health care in every part of the state.

He said: “You would be involved in the supervision and monitoring of the projects, ensuring that they facilitate the work to beat the timeline targeted at actualising His Excellency’s vision of Imo having access to healthcare, which is in compliance with the World Health Organisation (WHO)’s mandate.”

The Commissioner for Finance, Dr Doris Uzoka-Anite, applauded the Governor. She said the interaction was great. Uzoka-Anite also said the next rehabilitation would be the general hospitals in the state.

Applauding the Governor, also, was the Imo Primary Healthcare Development Agency (PHCDA), Rev Sr MaryJonnes Uzoma. She embraced the initiative and expressed hope for improved quality healthcare in Imo state.

Her words: “Since Uzodimma came on board as the governor of Imo, he has been working tirelessly to ensure that Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) in the state are working effectively and Imo citizens have access to quality healthcare.”

The IMC Chairman of Ehime Mbano Local Council, Chidi Okechukwu expressed hope as well. He said the initiative would make quality healthcare accessible to the people of Imo State.

He vowed to follow the directive of the Governor to the letter.

Governor Uzodinma said the health centres in the rural areas would be opened. He also mentioned some key projects the State Government would be working on.

They are:

  • Health centers.
  • Roads.
  • Pipe-borne water boreholes.
  • Security outfit.

He said that these projects would commence in the last week of November 2021. Those present during his parley with the IMCs were the traditional rulers and counsellors from the 27 local councils.

“We are going into the rural areas now to open them up. We will attack all the roads in the rural areas and I have called you to this meeting, as stakeholders, to sensitise you on the need for you to own the projects,” Uzodimma said. He urged the stakeholders to identify the location of existing health centres that have not been functioning so that the renovation could be carried out.

“Work will start by Monday or latest Tuesday. So, between now and Friday (today), you would have indicated where the facility is and we will do the needful,” he added.
