WHO Sends Strong Message On Ukraine Vs Russia War

WHO Chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has reacted to the attacks on Ukrainian hospitals.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the World Health Organisation said it was “deeply concerned”.

Speaking about the ongoing war between neighbouring countries Russia and Ukraine Tedros lamented on the attacks on healthcare facilities,

He told newsmen that the UN organization was both concerned about the facilities and the health workers.

WHO chief said the organization is “deeply concerned about reports of attacks on health facilities and health workers.”

He continued: “The sanctity and neutrality of healthcare:

“Including of health workers, patient supplies, transport and facilities, and the right to safe access to care must be respected and protected.”

He stressed that the attacks on healthcare were “in violation of international humanitarian law.”

Tedros also confirmed a viral report about a hospital attacked with heavy weapons. Four persons were killed and 10 injured. Among the injured persons were six health workers.

Ukrainian security forces said Russian airborne troops landed in the country’s second-largest city, Kharkiv. This attack affected a hospital where innocent lives were lost, the Ukrainian army claimed.

Meanwhile, the WHO said they were sending supplies to Ukraine through Poland.

Tedros confirmed that “six metric tonnes” of trauma and emergency care supply would reach Poland on Thursday.

In another report, an estimate of one million displaced people within Ukraine was confirmed.

The UN said that this was a result of the Russian invasion.

The report also gave an estimate of 875,000 citizens of Ukraine seeking shelter in neighbouring countries.
