What is NHIS?
NHIS simply means National Health Insurance Scheme.
It is social welfare created by the federal government of Nigeria to make health care accessible by all.
The National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) provides social health insurance in Nigeria. This is carried out through the pool of funds contributed by the participants of the scheme. The amount pooled allows the various Health Maintenance Organisations (HMO) to cater for the health needs of the people.
The HMOs are private bodies that share the responsibilities of healthcare with employees of a private organization and an individual.
