Nigerian Surgeon Performs First Spinal Surgery In Maryland

A Nigerian has achieved a major milestone by emerging as one of the pioneer surgeons in Maryland.

Director-General of the World Trade Organisation, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, announced this on Thursday.

Okonjo-Iweala who was former Minister announced that her son, Dr Uchechi Iweala was one of the first surgeons in Maryland to successfully perform a navigated lumbar spinal fusion. This achievement was aided through the use of a robot.

The excited mother disclosed this on a banned microblogging site, Twitter.

Posting beautiful photos of the laudable milestone, she wrote:

“Congratulations Dr Uchechi Iweala, on being one of the first spinal surgeons in Maryland to perform a successful navigated lumbar spinal fusion using a robot! So proud to be your Mum! Keep it going!”

Center for Advanced Orthopaedics revealed that Dr Iweala is a fellowship-trained Orthopaedic surgeon who specializes in spine surgery.

Dr Uchechi Iweala is an alumnus of:
1. Harvard University where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Medicine.
2. Harvard University; where he bagged his Master’s Degree.
3. George Washington University; where he earned his residency training in Orthopaedic surgery.
4. New York University, where he completed a fellowship in spine surgery.

He specializes in Robotic Spine Surgery, Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery, Cervical and Lumbar Disc Replacement, Spinal Fusion/Arthrodesis, Nerve Releases, etc.
