Nigerian Government Finally Set To Invest in Medical Tourism in 2022

The Federal Government has revealed plans to invest in world-class health facilities.
This was disclosed by the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed
Lai Mohammed said the federal government was committed to boosting medical health research and ending the brain drain.
Speaking at a media tour of Duchess International Hospital on Tuesday, he vowed that the Government would end the annual spending of N500bn spent on medical tourism.

He said that Nigeria would be welcoming foreign patients and medical personnel on the shore instead of visiting foreign hospitals.

“We as a country will also conserve our foreign reserves while earning foreign exchange, we will begin to reverse the brain drain in the health sector; create jobs and provide affordable and standard healthcare for our people. Of course, facilities like Duchess International are veritable tools for job creation, in addition to attracting medical tourists from across the world.

“It’s a new dawn for the health sector and we are proud of what Duchess and other healthcare facilities are doing in bringing about this new dawn.”

He recounted a medical breakthrough investment by the CBN at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to him, the sector set up an N100 billion Health Sector Investment Fund which was later expanded to N200 billion.
He said the funds were to provide credit support for the health sector investors. This was done through long-term, low-cost financing.
The CEO of the Duchess International Hospital, Dr Tokunbo Shitta-bey said the goal of the facility is to provide the pinnacle of healthcare to Nigerians.
