NBA Members Get NHIS Identity Cards In 2022

The National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) has supported members of the Nigerian Bar Association with identity cards.

Prof Mohammed Sambo, the Executive Secretary of the NHIS made this known.

He said this is a major step by the NHIS towards improving the stakeholders’ confidence.

Sambo further revealed that this card makes access to healthcare seamless and free.

Benefactors of these cards are members of the NBA who have enrolled with the health scheme.

During a ceremony at the NHIS Corporate Headquarter in Abuja, Prof Sambo said this move will boost confidence in the scheme.

He explained that the distribution of these cards shows the commitment the scheme has to service delivery.

Prof Sambo explained further that the card would also boost the confidence of the lawyers and others in the NHIS.

Sambo said that due to systemic challenges the NHIS had not issued any identity cards. He noted that these cards have unique features of encryption of vital data as well as other features. The NHIS staff explained further that this marked the beginning of the automation of its operation.

The NBA President, Olumide Apata lauded the effort of the NHIS.

Apata stated that health insurance was an instrument for the growth of a society. This was why the association considered enrolling over 100,000 of its members nationwide into the process.

The NBA president who led senior members of the bar and beneficiaries to the occasion expressed hope in the health sector.

He further said that this would enable lawyers to perform their routine professional duties in good health.

Apata said this development was a plus to the association’s subscription of life insurance for its members.

In 2021, the Nigerian Bar Association had enrolled 1000 members for health insurance. This was done with a vow to increase the figures.
