NAFDAC Raises Alarm Over Japata Alcoholic Bitters

The National Agency for Food And Drug Administration and Control has warned against consuming Japata Bitters.
NAFDAC alerted Nigerians about the unhealthy products of all variants of Japata Alcoholic Bitters 100 ml.
Japata Alcoholic Bitters is an alcoholic drink produced by Chigodson International Company Limited.
The agency said there were laboratory discoveries about contaminated, unwholesome and unhealthy Japata products in circulation.
They issued a warning with alert No. 027/2022 signed by NAFDAC Director-General, Prof. Moji Adeyeye.
The Food and Drugs agency also posted this alert on its official website.

The agency said they sprang into an investigation after a consumer complained about the product.
NAFDAC revealed that they retrieved samples of the Alcoholic drink from the site of production. The production site is at No. 30 Edegbami Offor Street, Off Destiny Bus Stop, Isheri-Osun Bus-stop in the Alimosho area of Lagos State. Samples were also collected from different market locations.
The samples were then sent to the NAFDAC laboratory. At the laboratory, analyses were carried out on the samples and the findings were bad, hence the alert.
The agency directed:
“NAFDAC implores distributors, retailers, and the public to exercise caution and vigilance to avoid consumption, sale, and distribution of the products.”
It added that Nigerians should report to the nearest NAFDAC office if they spot the product in any market.
The agency further directed:
“Adverse reaction experienced from the use of any of the products should be reported via NAFDAC PRASCOR (20543 or 0800-1-623322) TOLL-FREE from all networks) or pharmacovigilance@nafdac.gov.ng or e-Reporting platform available on the NAFDAC website www.nafdac.gov.ng.”
