Grammy awards 2022 has been suspended indefinitely over the rising concern of the COVID-19 Omicron variant.
The 2022 edition which has three Nigerian artistes nominated will not hold on January 31st.
In a statement released by the Recording Academy on its website, the new date will be announced.
The statement said that hosting it on the initially planned date “simply contains too many risks”.
They added laid emphasis on the importance of the health and safety of its officials.

“After careful consideration and analysis with city and state officials, health and safety experts, the artist community and our many partners, the Recording Academy and CBS have postponed the 64th annual Grammy awards Show.
“The health and safety of those in our music community, the live audience, and the hundreds of people who work tirelessly to produce our show remains our top priority.
“Given the uncertainty surrounding the Omicron variant, holding the show on January 31st simply contains too many risks. We look forward to celebrating Music’s Biggest Night on a future date, which will be announced soon.”
Nigerian A-listers; Femi Kuti, Wizkid, Tems, Made Kuti and Burna Boy are among the nominees.

Femi Kuti and Made Kuti was nominated for his;
‘Legacy +’ album in the ‘Best Global Music Album’ category.
‘Pa Pa Pa’ in the ‘Best Global Music Performance’ category.
Wizkid was nominated in two categories:
Angelique Kidjo and Burna Boy were also nominated in the ‘Best Global Music Performance’ category for ‘Do Yourself’.

Meanwhile, a new COVID-19 variant has been discovered in France named IHU.
The IHU variant has 46 mutations and is still under research by Scientist.
However, the Omicron variant is currently responsibly for over 60 per cent of COVID-19 cases in France. This statistics was confirmed by the Ministry of Health.
