The Government of Gombe state has lamented the increase in teenage pregnancies and child marriage.
The Deputy Governor, Dr Manassah Jatau, disclosed this on Wednesday.
He said that the increase in child marriage and teenage pregnancy was predominant in the Konfulata community. This place is within the Kwami Local Government Area of the State.
Jatau was embittered about the surge in teenage pregnancies. He said that this had become predominant in the area.
He said, “Early marriage and pregnancy were noticed during the visit to Konfulata recently.
“While we try to provide healthcare, we should be careful not to allow what will endanger the lives of the people.”
The Deputy Governor who hosted the leaders of the Gadam community raised his concerns.
The leaders of the community had visited Jatau to plead for road access. They also appreciated the Governor for collaborating with UNICEF and the Chinese Government to support 10 primary healthcare facilities in the area.
The Deputy Governor assured them that the Governor was responding to all their concerns.
Jatau lauded the skills acquisition programme of the Gadam Community Development Association for their youths and women. He noted that this effort would complement the effort of the Government towards youth empowerment.
