Edo Government Reschedules Oral Polio Vaccine In 2022, See New Date

The Edo State Government has announced a new date for the oral polio vaccine in 2022.
The vaccination is now billed to hold on May 14 exactly seven days from the initial date which was May 7.
The vaccination is for children between the ages of 0 to 59 months.
The Edo State Primary Health Care Development Agency disclosed this in a statement released on May 3.
The statement read:
“This is to inform the general public that the second round of oral polio vaccination for children between the age group of 0-59 months, that is, less than five years of age, earlier scheduled for May 7, will now hold between May 14 and May 17.”

With this new date, the exercise would be conducted in 18 local governments.
The Health Education Officer of the ESPHCDA, Mrs Irene Uabor confirmed the postponement of the vaccine to the press.
She also confirmed that the exercise would be conducted in all the 18 Local Government Areas of the State.
Uabor said the health personnel would be positioned at various points to administer the vaccines. They will be situated at:
- Churches.
- Mosques.
- Markets.
She explained that the increased cases of poliovirus had informed the decision for the vaccination campaign.

Mrs Irene Uabor sensitised parents and guardians about the vaccines. She urged them to comply with the required health guidelines to be issued by the health personnel for the immunisation exercise.
