COVID-19 Vaccine Data Management, What Health Workers Must Know

Data Managers from some selected states in Northern Nigeria have been trained on COVID-19 vaccine data management.

The Centre for Information Technology and Development trained these data managers.

Hamza Ibrahim, the Coordinator of Public education on the COVID-19 project CITAD, disclosed this on Tuesday.

Speaking during the first batch of the training exercise, Ibrahim said the training targets empowering the capacities of the data managers.

Ibrahim revealed that the training was in partnership with the MacArthur Foundation.

He noted that it is aimed at sensitizing each of the 19 Northern states on the importance of data.

According to him:

“The training will focus on data quality, and integrity, and will solve the issue of a data discrepancy. 

“We understand there are a lot of issues surrounding data at many levels. We hope to build their capacities around data to enable them to know how it is managed, and processed so that they can know credible data.”

He added that the participants for the first batch were cut across nine states. These states are:

  • Gombe.
  • Bauchi.
  • Adamawa.
  • Borno.
  • Taraba.
  • Yobe.
  • Jigawa.
  • Kaduna.
  • Kano.
  • Katsina.

He continued:

“From nine states we have 18 participants. we hope they will acquire the skills and the know-how. It will benefit the public because credible data can be easily accessed, and will help in decisions, and policies of the government.”

The Programme Manager Zamfara State Emergency Routine Immunisation Centre, Mustapha Alinkilo also spoke.

Alinkilo said the training would end the problems of discrepancies in data collection.

The Programme Manager, who was a facilitator at the training said:

“We are expected to find a lasting solution to the problem. We intend to use the opportunity to build their capacity in the electronic management of immunisation data. Most of the discrepancy has been from the northern region, because of higher volume and uptake.”

A data manager from Adamawa state, Fatimatu Abdullahi lauded the initiative.

Abdullahi who is also a participant said the training would boost her knowledge base. She also said it would help her discharge her official duties.
