At least 7,256 trained nurses have relocated from Nigeria to the UK as of March 2022.
According to the latest health news in Nigeria between March 2021 and March 2022, nearly 7300 nurses have departed Nigeria for the UK.
The Nursing and Midwifery Council of the United Kingdom revealed this on Thursday.
There is a continuous increase of them relocating from Nigeria to the UK in recent times.
There is data on the yearly migration of the health workers from 2016 to 2022.

Despite the COVID-19 pandemic a lot of nurses still migrated from Nigeria to the British countryside.
- From March 2017 to March 2018 – 2,796nurses migrated.
- From March 2018 to March 2019 – 3,021 Nigerian nurses left for the UK.
- From March 2019 to March 2020- 3,684.
- From March 2020 to March 2021- 4,310.
The council stated, “People who trained in the Philippines and India continue to represent a significant proportion of our permanent register and contribute strongly to our annual growth.
“Between 2021 and 2022, there was a significant increase in the number of people who trained in India, the Philippines and Nigeria joining the permanent register for the first time.”
This data ranks Nigeria third in the rate of foreign-trained nurses in the UK. The Philippines and India rank first and second respectively.
