Former Governor of Gombe State and Senator representing Gombe Central, Senator Danjuma Goje, has called out the huge gap between the primary and the tertiary healthcare delivery in Gombe state. He pointed out that this absence was created due to the absence of a Federal Medical Centre (FMC) and said the absence is worsening the health crisis in the state.
According a Daily Trust, Senator Danjuma talked about this during his lead debate on the bill which seeks to establish a Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Deba, Gombe. The bill has scaled a second reading in the senate. He stated that since the existing FMC to a teaching hospital was upgraded, the state had not gotten another one.
The Senator further explained that when the health facility is established, it would reduce the sufferings of people who are looking for tertiary healthcare services. He also pointed out that some communicable diseases continue to affect Nigerian communities because of the distance between the communities and the nearest tertiary healthcare facility. He stated that those with the sicknesses cannot access specialist hospitals where they can get adequate diagnosis and receive adequate treatment.
According to Senator Danjuma, the hospitals would also provide specialized services such as urology, orthopedics, neuro-surgery, cardiology, pediatrics, ear nose and throat treatment (ENT), radiotherapy, internal medicine, gynecology, nuclear medicine, psychiatry, and other fields of medicine that Nigerians may require.
