1.7 Million Jigawa Children To Receive Polio Immunization

The Jigawa State Government has said that 1.7 million Jigawa children will receive polio immunization.

This was announced by the Executive Secretary of the Jigawa State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr Kabir Ibrahim on Sunday.

He said the state had targeted 1.7 million persons for immunisation against the poliovirus.

Ibrahim told the NAN in Dutse that the exercise was being conducted in all 27 local government areas of the state.

He revealed that the four days exercise had commenced on Saturday, May 14 and was being conducted smoothly.

According to him, the agency had received enough Oral Polio Vaccines (OPVs) and other logistics for a hitch-free exercise.

He then requested the cooperation and support of other stakeholders to allow the smooth administration of the immunization.

Ibrahim called on traditional and religious leaders to also support the exercise.

The executive secretary advised parents to allow their children to receive the immunization. It stressed that they are available at various designated centres in the state.

He added:

“All stakeholders, especially parents, should please cooperate with the immunisation officials for a hitch-free exercise.

“We believe that the cooperation will facilitate quick response in combating the disease and address other emergencies in the state.”
