First Lady Of Lagos State Vows To Support Fight Against Drug Abuse

The wife of the Lagos State Governor,Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu has vowed to support the fight against drug abuse.

Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu said that she will be collaborating with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency and other stakeholders to fight the war against drug abuse.

The wife of the Governor said her campaign will be carried out in schools and communities across Lagos.

She lamented drug abuse among youths and the urgent need to end it.

This was disclosed in a statement signed by the Assistant Director, Public Affairs, Office of Lagos State First Lady, Olubukonla Nwonah on Thursday.

According to the statement, the First Lady disclosed this in a strategic meeting with the NDLEA and other stakeholders on Wednesday.

She said:

“The earlier we begin to tackle the daunting challenge, the better for our youths, ourselves, and the social health of our society. This strategic meeting is aimed at putting the menace of drug abuse and associated social vices on the front burner.

“We are truly and deeply concerned about the increase in the rate at which the younger ones are now getting addicted to illicit drugs, a development that brought about the need for all relevant stakeholders to embark on a campaign to fight the menace and enlighten victims on the dangers inherent in such lifestyle both now and in the future.”

She explained that the right time to tackle this problem was now. The First Lady reiterated her commitment to tackling the war against drug abuse.

Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu said that the coming weeks would see her championing a series of initiatives to progressively fight against drug abuse in schools and in communities.

She added:

“At the level of the Nigerian Governors’ Wives Forum, we are all concerned about this and we have resolved in our respective states to frontally confront the menace, looking at it from a holistic point of view.”
